FDA Threatens to Flex Recall Muscle Over Contaminated Foods

The FDA won’t hesitate to use its mandatory recall power when manufacturers balk at pulling dangerous contaminated foods and other products off the market, FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb said Nov. 5.

The Food and Drug Administration’s warning and new recall guidance come just seven months after the agency ordered its only obligatory recall under a food safety law. That order forced a Las Vegas-area company to recall powdered kratom, a stimulant compared to morphine and tied to a 41-state salmonella outbreak.
