EPA Finalizes Rule to Scale Back Animal Testing on Birds (1)

The Environmental Protection Agency has finalized a rule that will allow it to reduce animal testing on birds.

The finalized policy unveiled Wednesday will allow pesticide companies to request waivers for a specific kind of animal testing used to register outdoor pesticides.

The agency says it will no longer require companies to submit data from a specific test called the “sub-acute avian dietary test” if that data could be obtained from other sources or isn’t critical for regulatory decision-making.
