Cook Medical Gets FDA Evidence Into Clot Filter Trial

Cook Medical Inc. may introduce FDA evidence that it wanted at an upcoming bellwether trial over a blood-clot filter.

The medical device maker may tell jurors the Food and Drug Administration cleared the Cook Celect Vena Cava Filter for sale based on equivalence to another filter device already on the market.

Georgia resident Tonya Brand alleges her Cook filter broke and traveled after it was placed in her body. Part of the device remains embedded in her spine.

Brand’s case is slated to be the third federal test trial in a multidistrict proceeding that numbers more than 5,000 plaintiffs. It ...
