Cook Blood-Clot Filter Trial Will Hear Psychiatrist’s Testimony

Cook Medical Inc. can present testimony at an upcoming trial from a psychiatrist who refutes a woman’s claim that the company’s blood-clot trapping filter caused her pain and emotional distress.

Georgia resident Tonya Brand alleged a Cook Celect Vena Cava Filter broke and traveled after it was placed in her body. Part of the device pierced her thigh and was removed but a part remains embedded in her spine.

Brand’s trial, set to start Jan. 14, 2019, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana, would be the third federal test trial in a multidistrict proceeding that ...
