Chinese Drywall Defendants Can’t Overturn Default Judgments

Three Chinese defendants failed to set aside default judgments in cases stemming from allegedly shoddy drywall installed in the wake of Hurricanes Rita and Katrina.

The related companies, China National Building Materials Co. Beijing New Building Material (Group) Co., and Beijing New Building Materials Public Ltd, were properly served in the multidistrict litigation, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana ruled Jan. 2

And good cause doesn’t exist to set aside the four default judgments after the three companies failed to timely contest the suits, Judge Eldon E. Fallon said.
