Champion Petfoods Dog Food Label Suit Tossed

Champion Petfoods USA Inc. notched a win when a federal court threw out a proposed class suit alleging two dog foods were tainted with heavy metals.

Wisconsin resident Kelly Loeb alleged Champion touted its “Orijen” and “Acana” dog foods as premium products when they contain toxic residues of lead, arsenic, cadmium, and mercury.

But Loeb’s claims under Wisconsin consumer protection law fail because she didn’t show the levels of heavy metals were harmful, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin said, granting summary judgment to Champion.
