Big Setback for Ex-NHL Players in Concussion Cases (2)

Concussion cases of retired National Hockey League players will proceed individually, not as a class action, a federal court in Minnesota ruled July 13.

The legal issues presented by the players are too different to be litigated as a class action, which requires that class members present legal questions common to all of the cases.

The decision is a major blow to former players who, like their counterparts in the National Football League, hoped to gain leverage by presenting their claims as a class action, rather than the more arduous process of trying each case individually.
