Bayer Facing More Than 10,000 Essure Plaintiffs

Bayer Corp. faces suits from more than 10,000 women alleging they were seriously hurt by its Essure permanent contraceptive.

The figure, reported in an Oct. 26 third quarter securities filing, is nearly double the 5,700 number the company noted in its July 27 filing for the previous quarter.

The flurry of new filings comes from attorneys watching the calendar, mindful that a Food and Drug Administration advisory panel met just over two years ago to take a new look at Essure, according to one plaintiffs’ attorney.
