Avco Faces New Trial, $28 Million Verdict Over Plane Crash

Avco Corp.'s Lycoming Engines division must face a new trial on its liability for a plane crash, the Minnesota Supreme Court ruled Sept. 11.

Avco faces the possibility that a nearly $28 million jury award will remain in place if it’s found responsible.

Kedrowski told emergency personnel just after his crash that the plane lost power, according to the court. He no longer has any memory of the accident. His mechanical engineering expert, Donald Sommer, extensively investigated the engine and found the only part with a problem was the fuel pump.
