Atkins Nutritionals’ Carb Claims Don’t Add Up, Suit Says

Atkins Nutritionals, Inc. deceives consumers about how some products affect the blood sugar, an important consideration for those who follow the low-carbohydrate nutrition philosophy, a proposed class suit says (Garcia v. Atkins Nutritionals, Inc., S.D.N.Y., No. 17-05232, 7/11/17).

The “net carbs” display on chocolate chip cookie dough bars and about 30 other Atkins products misleads buyers about their glycemic index, or effect on blood sugar, according to a July 11 suit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
