Apple Suit Alleging Gift Cards Prone to Value Theft Advances

Apple Inc. and Apple Value Services LLC failed to convince a California federal trial court to toss a proposed class suit alleging they marketed gift cards whose value could be stolen at the point of sale, making them worthless.

Rachael Shay alleges Apple directly participated in the alleged unfair business practices, in violation of California’s Consumers Legal Remedies Act and Unfair Competition Law, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California said Jan. 8.
