Wawa Will Pay $12 Million to Settle Customers’ Cyberattack Suits

Wawa Inc. agreed to pay up to $12 million to settle data security claims brought by a nationwide group of customers whose bank card information was compromised in 2019 by hackers, according to a settlement agreement filed in Pennsylvania federal court.

Up to 22 million Wawa customers will be entitled to one of three tiers of relief paid out of a $9 million settlement fund, according to the plaintiffs’ unopposed motion for preliminary approval of the settlement agreement. It was filed Feb. 19 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
