Updated Draft of California Privacy Rules Eases Business Burdens

California regulators are considering pared-down business requirements for consumer privacy requests, such as removing a deadline for third parties to notify businesses (and indirectly, consumers) that they can’t comply with the law.

The California Privacy Protection Agency is updating its rules to expand consumers’ options over how businesses collect and use personal information under the California Privacy Rights Act. The agency is in its second round of public comment after incorporating feedback on its initial set of proposed changes. The public comment period ended Monday.
