Twitter Accused of Misleading Users on Data Sold to Advertisers

Twitter Inc. induced consumers to disclose their personal information under the false pretext of securing their account, but actually sold the information to advertisers, according to a proposed class action filed in federal court in California.

Christa McClellan and Billy Moses allege that Twitter didn’t disclose that users’ email addresses and phone numbers would be used for any other purpose than verifying login information or allowing users to recover their accounts. Twitter has encouraged users to set up two-factor authentication with their contact information since 2013.
