Travelers’ Personal Data Left Vulnerable by U.S. Customs Agency

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials put travelers’ data at risk by using inadequate cybersecurity measures, an internal watchdog report says.

  • Personal data is left vulnerable in the Mobile Passport Control app used by more than 10 million U.S. and Canadian citizens from July 2017 to Dec. 2019
  • Agency didn’t complete required security and privacy reviews, or implement protective hardware and software settings, the Department of Homeland Security’s inspector general report says
  • CBP committed to meet report’s cybersecurity recommendations
