Public Interest Can Outweigh Privacy, Italy’s Soro to Stampa

Privacy rights, including digital data protection, are guaranteed by the Constitution, but are subject to the limitations of public interest, particularly in the current dramatic situation, Italy’s Privacy Authority head Antonello Soro says to La Stampa daily.

  • “I would not object to a protocol able to track down coronavirus positive cases and to guarantee the observance of quarantine rules, but this should be followed by specific health tests”
  • We would need a single team handling the process, possibly managed by the civil protection authority, Soro says
