ParTech Fingerprint Retention Case Will Stay in Federal Court

ParTech Inc. lost its bid to ditch a proposed class action challenging the technology company’s alleged retention and analysis of fingerprints collected through its point-of-sale system for restaurants.

Kandice Neals claims that her employer, Charley’s Philly Steaks, required her to use her fingerprint to “punch in” for her shifts on its on-site ParTech POS system. ParTech purportedly didn’t obtain Neals’ written release to collect and store her fingerprints, as required by Illinois’ Biometric Information Privacy Act, nor did it inform her of how long and for what purposes it would be using that information.
