Naver Corp. Win in Suit Over Data Collection by Messaging App

South-Korea-based Naver Corp. and a group of affiliated companies won an early victory in a data-privacy lawsuit alleging they collected users’ personal information without their consent through a messaging app and a photo-editing app, a federal court ruled.

Plaintiffs Sidney Ji, June Abe and four others alleged that Naver and the other defendants collected their information with the LINE Messenger app and the B612 app in violation of federal and state privacy laws, including the California Invasion of Privacy Act and the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act.
