Motel 6 to Pay $12M to Settle Claims it Gave Guest Info to ICE

Motel 6 will pay $12 million to settle a lawsuit alleging it voluntarily gave guest lists to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents for more than two years, Washington state’s attorney general announced.

The motel chain also committed to adopting a nationwide policy to only hand over guest information with a warrant or for other lawful purposes in resolving a January 2018 lawsuit filed by Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson (D). The company will also train its employees on the policies, Ferguson’s office said in a statement.
