Marriott Faces Class Claims in Breach of 5.2 Million Customers

Marriott International Inc. faces class claims after a data breach exposed about 5.2 million customer accounts, according to a federal court complaint in Maryland.

The hotel chain allegedly failed to take reasonable steps to prevent the breach or give customers “prompt and accurate notice,” according to the complaint filed Wednesday at the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.

Marriott announced March 31 that cybercriminals in February used employee login credentials to access hotel preference information, loyalty account data, and birth dates.
