Lawmakers Question Facebook’s Ability to Safeguard Kids’ Data

Democrats in Congress are “skeptical” of Facebook Inc.'s ability to safeguard children’s data on a rumored new version of the Instagram app.

“Facebook has a record of failing to protect children’s privacy and safety, casting serious doubt on its ability to do so on a version of Instagram that is marketed to children,” Sens. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and Reps. Kathy Castor (D-Fla.) and Lori Trahan (D-Mass.) wrote in a letter Monday. The letter is addressed to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
