Homeland Security Escapes Attorney’s Computer Tampering Claims

The Department of Homeland Security defeated a lawsuit brought by an immigration attorney alleging that agency employees tampered with her computer network and telecommunications system, after a federal court in Texas ruled it lacked subject matter jurisdiction over the claims.

Marlene Dougherty claimed that DHS targeted her with unlawful investigations into her immigration work, including accessing and altering pleadings and other documents that she wrote to be filed in court. Dougherty alleged that she was also locked out of several online accounts with immigration agencies, experienced difficulties signing into DHS-related accounts, and received threatening voice messages.
