Hacks Prompt Senators to Seek More Cyber Agency Power, Oversight

Senators from both parties want to give greater resources and authority to the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency—even as they demand greater transparency about SolarWinds and other cyber incidents.

“We must continue working to strengthen our cybersecurity defenses and response plans to prevent these types of attacks from occurring in the first place, and prevent them from having catastrophic consequences on our daily lives,” Sen. Gary Peters (D-Mich.), chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, said during a Tuesday hearing.
