Google Made Schools Privacy ‘Proxies for Parents,’ New Mexico Says

Alphabet Inc.'s Google shouldn’t be allowed to treat schools as “proxies for parents” regarding children’s privacy, New Mexico’s attorney general is arguing in a Tenth Circuit appeal of a lower court decision in a privacy case.

Hector Balderas (D) alleged in a federal lawsuit that Google breached the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act and a voluntary industry pledge on student privacy by collecting data about users of its educational tools without permission from their parents.
