Google Fined $8m by Swedish Authority for GDPR Failure

March 11, 2020, 2:07 PM

Google as a search engine operator hasn’t “fulfilled its obligations in respect of the right to request delisting,” the Swedish Data Protection Authority says on its website.

  • Authority says that Google didn’t properly remove two of the search result listings that it had ordered removed in 2017, when the audit began
  • The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) increases the level of responsibility for organizations that collect and process personal data, as well as strengthening individual rights
  • Google may appeal the decision to be fined SEK75m, or $8m, within three weeks
