Florida Opioid Lawsuit May Get Boost From Drug Monitoring Data

The Florida attorney general would get a new trove of evidence for a lawsuit against Purdue Pharma and other companies under legislation headed to Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) for his signature.

H.B. 1253 would let the state’s top law enforcement officer use information from Florida’s prescription drug monitoring database as evidence in the pending opioid litigation. Florida accuses pharmaceutical companies of helping create the epidemic that claimed 70,000 U.S. lives in 2017.

“We are in the midst of an opioid crisis in this country, and Florida is no exception,” said bill sponsor Sen. Tom Lee (R) on the Senate floor. ...
