Facebook Wins Early Skirmish in Battle Over Data Transfer (1)

Facebook Inc. won an early boost in the latest in a growing list of European regulatory battles when an Irish court gave it permission to fight a draft ruling banning its use of a key tool for transatlantic data transfers.

The social network is seeking to topple a preliminary decision by the Irish Data Protection Commission, which says the tech giant may no longer use so-called standard contractual clauses when it sends data to the U.S.

Judge Charles Meenan in Dublin ruled on Monday that Facebook can formally seek a judicial review in November.
