Facebook Says EU Court Opinion Limits Scope of Data Disputes (1)

Facebook Inc. said a court opinion at the European Union’s top court backs a system aimed at avoiding data-privacy probes by multiple regulators across the region.

Michal Bobek, an advocate general at the EU’s Court of Justice, said on Wednesday that the General Data Privacy Regulation, or GDPR, gives a lead watchdog, such as the Irish agency when it comes to Facebook, “general competence” over cross-border data processing.

But while other regulators “enjoy a more limited power,” the law doesn’t prevent them from taking a company to court in some cases, he added.
