Facebook Privacy Woes Continue in Irish Data Transfer Fight

The privacy problems that have rocked Facebook Inc. may get worse next year, if Ireland’s highest court decides that the social media giant doesn’t do enough to guard EU citizens’ privacy when it transfers data out of the bloc.

The eventual ruling also could create new problems for Facebook’s U.S.-based rivals, Alphabet Inc.'s Google and Microsoft Corp., which use the same method, known as standard contractual clauses, to obtain lucrative EU citizens’ data.
