Consumer class actions over Facebook and Cambridge Analytica’s mishandling of user data will be consolidated in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
Consolidating the suits will eliminate duplicative discovery, prevent inconsistent rulings, and conserve resources, the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation said in a June 6 order.
Eight actions in four districts were pending when the consolidation motion was filed. Since then, 22 potentially related actions have been filed in six districts, the panel said.
Judge Vince Chhabria, who is already presiding over almost half of the cases, will oversee the litigation.
