EU, South Korea Officials in Talks on Data Protection Pact (1)

European lawmakers have kicked off talks with South Korean officials to discuss whether South Korea law mandates enough privacy protections for companies there to move EU residents’ personal data out of the bloc.

The talks are part of ongoing negotiations that could allow companies in South Korea access to the EU’s digital single market. Companies benefit by being able to more easily access data without additional costly mechanisms to transfer data.
