Clearview AI Inc. is pushing back against claims that it used photos of people’s faces without their permission for facial recognition, arguing in an Illinois court that the state’s biometric privacy law doesn’t apply.
Clearview since May has worked only as a contractor for law enforcement or government agencies and is therefore exempt from the Biometric Information Privacy Act, the company said in a court filing Sunday. Clearview said it has canceled contracts with non-government organizations.
