Canadian Police Use of Clearview AI Tech Said to Invade Privacy

The use of Clearview AI Inc.'s facial recognition technology by Canada’s national police service was illegal, Canada’s privacy commissioner alleged in a report to the Canadian Parliament.

Clearview violated Canada’s Privacy Act by creating a database of more than 3 billion images scraped from the internet without people’s permission, Daniel Therrien alleged in his report.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police no longer use the technology, since Clearview stopped offering its facial recognition in Canada in light of the privacy commissioner’s investigation.
