Auto Law Imposes Cybersecurity Threats, Car Execs Argue at Trial

A new vehicular right to repair law in Massachusetts that offers an unrealistic compliance timeline would also usher in grave cybersecurity risks, automotive executives and industry representatives argued at trial on Monday.

The law—passed by voters in a November 2020 ballot initiative—expands consumer and repair shop access to vehicle data. Proponents of the initiative argued the law would level the playing field for mom-and-pop repair shops.
