Senate Moves to Block Medical Research Administration Cut

The Senate moved to block the Trump administration from cutting administrative costs tied to federal research grants as part of a bill passed Sept. 7 linking Hurricane Harvey aid and temporary government funding.

If also passed by the House, it would prohibit reducing the federal cap on indirect costs in research grants until December, when the federal funds expire. A similar provision extending the protections to the end of fiscal year 2018, supported by Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), was included in a Senate appropriations bill that advanced Sept. 7.
