Second Pfizer, Moderna Shot OK Even After Reaction, Study Finds

Patients can safely get both doses of Pfizer and Moderna’s Covid-19 vaccine—even if they experienced potential allergic reactions after the first shot, according to a study published Monday.

Rare cases of anaphylaxis—two to five people per million—identified in the early days of the vaccine rollout prompted the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to recommend that anyone with an immediate allergic reaction to their first shot should forgo their second dose and talk to their doctor about taking a different type of vaccine.

But the findings in JAMA Internal Medicine indicate that may not be necessary.
