Philips Says Garmin, Fitbit Infringe Health Tracking Patents

Fitbit’s and Garmin‘s health tracking technologies infringe four patents owned by Philips North America LLC, two July 22 complaints say.

The companies’ smartphone applications infringe Philips’s exercise and medical data tracking patents when they connect to wearable fitness trackers, the complaints say.

Philips owns U.S. Patent Nos. 6,013,007; 7,088,233; 8,277,377; and 6,976,958. The ‘007 patent covers providing performance data to an athlete and making real-time recommendations to the athlete on meeting their goals.
