Health-Care Research Agency Would Die
In Republican Plan Approved by House Panel

The House Republican plan to get rid of the HHS agency that promotes evidence-based health care was approved in a party-line vote during an appropriations subcommittee markup June 17.

The move to eliminate the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality by Oct. 1 was part of the $153 billion labor-health discretionary spending package for fiscal year 2016 that the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies marked up. It was the subcommittee’s first markup in three years, the panel’s ranking member Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) said.
