Former FDA Head Expects to See More Approved Covid Therapies

Drug companies should be able to bring medicines to market that can help people who are sick with Covid-19, similar to the way Tamiflu fights off influenza, former FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb said.

“I’m almost fairly certain that we’re going to get an antiviral drug that inhibits viral replication. This shouldn’t be a hard virus to drug,” Gottlieb, who emerged as one of the leading public health voices during the early stages of the pandemic, said during Research!America’s national health research forum.

Merck & Co. Inc. and Ridgeback Biotherapeutics LP are working on an antiviral for Covid-19 called molnupiravir. ...
