Fetal Tissue Research Studies on Hold With No HHS Ethics Board (1)

Fetal tissue research applications remain in limbo as the National Institutes of Health wait for the Trump administration to establish an ethics board.

“For extramural research, any grant that was already funded is allowed to continue, but any new or competing applications would be on hold until we have this ethics advisory board set up so they can look at it,” NIH Director Francis S. Collins said in a Sept. 25 interview.

Extramural research grants are NIH-funded studies conducted by researchers at universities and other research institutions, and they account for more than 80 percent of the NIH’s $39 billion...
