Delay For Human Trial Research Updates Heads to White House

The White House should finally end the confusion surrounding when research institutions will have to comply with an Obama-era overhaul of rules governing human testing and other clinical trials.

The Health and Human Services Department sent a final rule to the White House Office of Management and Budget for review June 7 that would delay the effective date of updates to the “Common Rule” until January 2019. That rule (45 C.F.R. 46) applies to nearly 20 federal agencies and their grantees and outlines how universities and other research institutions must conduct clinical trials on human subjects.
