Biden Health Research Agency to Be Part of Next Biomedical Bill

Lawmakers who authored the 21st Century Cures Act, a 2016 biomedical innovation law, will fold President Joe Biden’s proposal for a new health research agency into the next iteration of the popular statute.

Biden’s proposed Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health, or ARPA-H, is modeled on initiatives at the Pentagon and the Department of Energy that paved the way for the internet and GPS. Biden requested $6.5 billion in his initial budget proposal to build this new agency within the National Institutes of Health.
