PFAS Food Package Ban, Cookware Rule Moves in California (1)

California is one step closer to banning “forever chemicals” in food packaging and requiring health warnings on cookware containing those compounds, under a bill passed in the state assembly Thursday.

AB 1200 is the latest effort in the Golden State to tackle per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), which have been found throughout the nation’s water supply, in agriculture products, the air, and humans.

PFAS are part of a family of more than 5,000 chemicals and are widely used because they’re stain- and water-resistant. Exposure can cause an increased risk of certain cancers, developmental problems, and other ill health effects, according ...
