3M, Daikin America Won’t Give EPA ‘Forever Chemical’ Data (3)

3M Co. and Daikin America Inc. are refusing to comply with EPA’s voluntary request for information about the future of “forever chemical” manufacturing—data that an ex-agency official says is crucial to regulating contaminants in water systems nationwide.

The Environmental Protection Agency in March announced that it may soon begin setting standards and limitations for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances in industrial wastewater discharges. It asked companies for a range of information about how PFAS are made now, how they’ll be made in the future, whether companies may phase them out and how to identify other PFAS manufacturers.
