See’s Candy Workers Lose Bid to Form Class in Meal Break Dispute

A former See’s Candy Shop employee who says the company violates California meal break laws must proceed individually after an appeals court affirmed Monday that the matter can’t be resolved on a class basis.

Debbie Salazar sued the candy retailer alleging violations of state employment laws. See’s didn’t provide the legally required second meal break to employees who worked shifts longer than 10 hours, Salazar said. The company’s policy is to provide those breaks, but in practice it consistently fails to do so, the complaint alleges.
