Maryland Paid Leave Bill Vetoed, Democrats Likely to Override

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan vetoed a bill to create statewide paid family and medical leave, but the Democratic-majority legislature likely has enough votes to override him.

The bill, SB 275, which the Republican governor vetoed Friday, would guarantee paid time off up to 12 weeks annually for workers to tend to a new child, their own medical need, or a family member’s serious illness or military deployment—or up to 24 weeks for a parent who needs medical leave during pregnancy followed by parental leave.
