The final 2023 General Instructions for Certain Information Returns, including Forms 1099, were released March 15 by the IRS.
The final instructions closely match the draft released Nov. 21, but include mention of the reduced e-filing threshold in effect starting in 2024 and more references to the Information Returns Intake System (IRIS), the information return filing portal opened between the release of the draft and final instructions.
Copies of many of the forms mentioned in the instructions to be given to recipients or kept in records can be filled out on IRS.gov, the instructions said.
