Illinois Lets Minors Under 16 in Entertainment Work Until 10 P.M.

Illinois minors under age 16 in television, motion picture, or related entertainment productions may work until 10 p.m. without a state labor department waiver under a bill (S.B. 3161) Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) signed May 13 that is effective Jan. 1, 2023.

Employers must apply to the state labor department for a waiver if a minor is working anytime from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., the bill states. Current Illinois law requires a waiver for minors under age 16 working later than 7 p.m. from Labor Day to June 1 and later than 9 p.m. for the rest ...
