California Extends Paid Covid-19 Leave for Workers Through December

California employers must continue to provide up to 40 hours of paid Covid-19 leave under A.B. 152, a bill signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) Sept. 29, extending the state’s current paid leave requirement through Dec. 31, 2022.

A.B. 152 extends California’s Covid-19 paid leave requirement for qualifying employers, a requirement set to expire Sept. 30.

Prior to paying sick or family leave, employers can request documentation of test results, which must be made available upon request. Employers are not required to grant paid sick leave if the employee refuses to provide documented test results.
