Walgreens Calls ‘Misguided’ Blue Cross Rate Suit ‘Dead Wrong’

Walgreens says Blue Cross Blue Shield’s “misguided” lawsuit in Chicago federal court claiming it conceals cash discounts from insurers fails to identify false statements about the savings program or target “indispensable parties” like pharmacy benefit manager Express Scripts.

“Essentially, plaintiffs claim that they should never pay the negotiated rate for a drug if any customer anywhere could buy it for a lower price,” the retail pharmacy says in court papers filed Wednesday. “Plaintiffs are dead wrong.”
